Gulls drop three to Lake Tahoe
Home ice could not be protected by the San Diego Gulls Junior A League team, which was swept in a three-game weekend series by the Lake Tahoe Blue in Western States Hockey League action at the Escondido Ice-Plex.
The Gulls dropped the first game of the series, 6-3 on Friday. The hosts trailed 5-0 by the midpoint of the second period and could not make up the difference. Nick Anderson scored a hat trick with a three-goal night for the Blue.
Drew DePalma, Eric Baldwin and Michael Leone scored goals for the Gulls, and DePalma and Baldwin each had an assist. Tempers flared midway through the third period, leading to five game misconduct penalties, two majors and a double minor. Five players from both teams were dished out a total of 64 penalty minutes for the scuffle.
